Catarata La Fortuna

The waterfall is produced by the waters of the Fortuna River and by tributaries located in the mountains of the area, located just 5 kilometers from the town of La Fortuna and 70 meters high, and to reach the base you must go down (and then climb) the more than 500 steps that bridge the gap from the entrance to the bathing area of ​​the waterfall with a total of 20 minutes of travel

First it is done with trained horses, on whose way you can see pastures, forest and high hills, in addition to perceiving an extraordinary view of the San Carlos Valley. Then there will be a walk through duly marked trails and volcanic rocks will be observed in the vicinity of the waterfall.

It is an excursion to spend the day, the schedule to access the waterfall is from 8am to 5pm.

You will find free parking service, bathrooms, dressing rooms, showers, lockers, souvenir shop, a couple of viewpoints, a path that runs through an orchid garden and restaurant service.

How to go to La Fortuna Waterfall

The Río Fortuna Waterfall is located just 5 kilometers from the town of La Fortuna and there are two access roads if you want to go by car. The first one is route 301 that passes through the town and you must connect from highway 702. This route is 5.3 kilometers long and will take you around 15 minutes.
The other road makes a slight detour and passes through highway 506 to later connect with route 301. In this case, the route is about 5.5 kilometers and approximately 20 minutes.

In case you do not have a car you can get to La Fortuna Waterfall by taxi from the town for about 10 dollars. It is important to know that there is no public transport linking the waterfall with the town.
